Because the customers always write. In fact, it surprises me how many emails I get asking wine-related questions (especially when you can ask questions in the comment section of the posts). So why not use those emails on the blog?
Hence a new feature, Ask the Wine Curmudgeon. I added a link on the top of the web site – just click on that, and you’ll get an email form so you can ask your question.
Not sure how regularly the feature will run to start, though I’m hoping for once a month. And pretty much any wine question is OK, whether it’s about pairings, what I think of a wine I haven’t reviewed on the blog, or how the wine business works.

I have made the same observation. I get many more direct emails versus those that will ask questions via the comment on Vintagetexas.com blog.
I asked some of my blogger friends in California about it and they had two theories:
1. As Texas is a new wine growing/consuming region, readers may feel somewhat fearful about airing their wine knowledge or lack of knowledge.
2. Due to your/our visibility and contacts, most people feel like they know you and have a personal connection and thus deserve a more personal email correspondence with you.
...for what that's worth.
